Petrol Vs Electric: waving the chequered flag on green energy myths
13 June 2017It's no secret that electric vehicles have been making huge strides over the past decade or so, and yet despite this, more than a few doubters remain within the automotive fraternity.
Why this is the case remains unclear, and not even the birth of Formula E – the all-electric equivalent to F1 – has been able to convince people that electric cars could well signify the future of not just motorsport, but the wider world of motoring too.
Here at TeamSport, we need no convincing about the potential of electric vehicles, which is why we've invested in a whole host of electric go karts to sit alongside our awesome petrol karts up and down the country, including at Brighton, Newcastle, Reading and many of our other tracks.
However, if you still require a little convincing yourself, take a look at some of the dispelled myths about electric vehicles below and park those fears in the pits. We’ve also put together a list of the similarities and differences between electric go karts vs petrol go karts so that you have all the facts and can make an informed decision when planning your exhilarating racing experience!
ELECTRIC VEHICLE MYTHS
Before we dive deeper in electric go karts vs petrol go karts, we want to take a second to dispel some of the myths about electric vehicles in general.
From speed to charging, let’s take a look at the top three myths about electric vehicles.
MYTH 1: AREN'T ELECTRIC VEHICLES REALLY SLOW?
No, they're really not. In fact, the 100% electric Tesla Model S boasts a ludicrous 0-60mph time of just 2.7 seconds – making it quicker off the mark than a whole host of Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, despite weighing a significant amount more.
The same goes for Formula E cars. Not only are these machines capable of getting from 0-60mph in 3 seconds, the fact that they can travel at speeds of 140mph makes them anything but a slouch.
You can learn more about how fast our go karts can go in our recent blog. See for yourself just how quick an electric race car can be and book a session with TeamSport today. Whether you visit with family, your work colleagues or on your own, you’ll be tearing up the track on one of our exceptional e-karts!
MYTH 2: DON'T ELECTRIC VEHICLES RUN FLAT EVERY 10 MINUTES?
Again, no.
In terms of everyday road cars, even cheaper all-electric models like the Nissan Leaf are capable of travelling up to 155 miles on one charge, whereas bigger, more expensive models like the Mercedes EQS can clock an astounding 452 miles before running flat.
Formula E races see electric cars being pushed to their limits for an entire race duration - so the battery life of electric vehicles has really improved dramatically over recent years!
The best part about e-karting with TeamSport? We take care of the charging so you can enjoy a hassle-free, fun-filled experience without worrying about a thing…actually, all you need to worry about is winning!
MYTH 3: ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE MORE EXPENSIVE
So, this is a half-myth and half-truth. Unfortunately, something that perhaps explains why you're yet to see an electric car parked on every corner is the price.
Sure the government is offering hefty discounts for those willing to invest in an electric vehicle, but even still, drivers can expect to pay thousands more for an electric vehicle compared to standard models.
However, the reason this is partially a myth is because it doesn’t apply to all electric vehicles, and certainly not our e-karts!
Luckily, at TeamSport we don't charge you any extra for using an electric kart – meaning you can enjoy all the high octane, eco-friendly racing you desire for a fraction of the price.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ELECTRIC VS PETROL GO KARTING
There are, of course, some differences between electric vs petrol go karting that may influence your decision as to which of our incredible tracks you visit.
Our top three differences between electric go karts vs petrol go karts are:
Environmental impact - E-karting really does take the ‘e’ part seriously…electric, exciting, exhilarating, energetic, and most important, eco-friendly! That’s right, the main difference between electric go karts vs petrol go karts is that e-karts are better for the environment.
Noise - If you’re a racing superfan, you’ll most likely love the growl of a petrol-fuelled go kart as you accelerate around the track. However, if you’re looking for a quieter, yet just as thrilling experience, choose an electric go kart as they are almost silent!
Weight - Our final difference between electric go karts vs petrol go karts is their weight. You might be surprised to know that e-karts are heavier than petrol-powered go karts! Both will have advantages in different areas of the circuit - the lightness of the gas go kart will help you make the cleanest, smooth corners whereas the electric go kart will make up speed on the straights. Either way, your go kart will provide everything you need to zoom past your competition and take the gold medal from right under their feet!
