The entire premise ofLove After Lockup makes it challenging for relationships to last long-term. But for those lucky couples who turned pen pal exchanges into real life love after a prison stint ends, things have been quite rewarding. But which Love After Lockup couples are still together today after the show?
The couples on the show are made up of one person on the outside, who fell for a prisoner who was serving a sentence. Upon the felon’s release, the lovebirds then try to make a go of it in the real world, having only “dated” — or in some cases married! — while the other person was behind bars.
The show became a massive hit after its WE tv debut on January 12, 2018. It has since become a Friday night juggernaut that has run for three seasons, with the fourth debuting on June 18, 2021. The series spawned the popular spinoff Life After Lockup, which follows couples from the show’s previous seasons to give current updates on their love lives. The newest season premieres on Friday, February 24, 2023.
It hasn’t been easy for most couples to make the adjustment to — as the title says — life after lockup. For the person on the outside, expectations that they will get married right away after years of “dating” via being pen pals (with occasional visits) are typically high. Usually expectations are high for the person on the outside that they will get married right away after years of “dating,” via being pen pals with occasional visits. But for the prisoner, life in the real world comes with a lot more pressing challenges than finding a wedding venue. Some have to move into halfway houses, while others remain on restrictive paroles. They all have to go about trying to find employment … which is quite challenging having a prison record!
Sadly, some romantic hopefuls on the outside come to find out that they were used as “tricks” by their prison sweethearts to get money and other items sent to them to make life behind bars easier. Several women on the show later discovered that their men on the inside were getting hot and heavy with other female pen pals on the outside, which has made for some very intense situations where the women come face to face. But there are seven couples from the three seasons of the show who found love, got married, and in several cases started families of their own.

Brittany and Marcelino
Season 2’s Brittany and Marcelino Santiago were once one the show’s happiest endings. The professional poker player met the inmate via her Nevada prison’s pen pal program and the pair fell for each other. Following her release in 2018, the two initially dealt with his control issues, as well as Brittany’s bisexuality and the presence of her ex-girlfriend Amanda. But Brittany was determined not to make any mistakes that would send her back to prison for a third time, and totally turned her life around.
The two managed to build a life together in Las Vegas, and Marcelino proposed to Brittany on the Vegas strip. The pair’s wedding was shown at the end of season 2, and by then Brittany was already pregnant with a daughter they later named Zoila.
Marcelino was instrumental in helping Brittany gain custody of her son Giovanni, who had been living with her ex-boyfriend Tito in between her two prison stints. The couple welcomed a son of their own in 2020, Marcelino Rebel Santiago, making for an adorable family of five. The infant’s birth was shown during an episode of Life After Lockup.
As of February 2023, it is unclear what the status of Brittany and Marcelino’s relationship status is. The pair hit a rough patch after it was revealed that the poker player sent personal photos to a woman they had a threesome Brittany’s ex Amanda and requested she do the same.
Though Brittany still has an Instagram highlight reel called “True Love” featuring Marcelino up on her page, the last time she posted a photo with her husband dates back to May 2022.

Lacey and Shane
Another couple who at first beat the odds in a far more surprising way were season 2’s Lacey and Shane Whitlow. The cam model was waiting for her former high school sweetheart John Slater to finish a prison stint, as the two were engaged to be married. But Lacey cruised some online prison dating sites and came across Shane’s photo, falling hard for him.
Shane got out of prison before John, and he and Lacey fell wildly in love. He even moved into her Virginia Beach, Virginia, home following his four-year prison sentence for a malicious wounding charge. Shane proposed and Lacey accepted, ultimately ending things with John. The pair tied the knot in a beachside ceremony shown on Love After Lockup, but Lacey ended up going back to John after finding out Shane had been unfaithful to her.
John landed back behind bars, while Lacey and Shane repaired their marriage. They decided to have a baby, even though she already was a mom to three kids from a previous marriage and had her tubes tied. After a successful round of IVF, Lacey became pregnant with a daughter they later named Summer Rayne. Shane has happily settled into his role as a dad to his own little girl, along with being a loving stepfather to Lacey’s other children.
However, things took a sad turn after the 2020 COVID lockdown. OnLife After Lockup, it was revealed that Shane lost his job and the couple began to fight more, with Lacey accusing Shane of being unfaithful after their love life cooled. Shane spent Thanksgiving 2021 away from Lacey and the kids, instead choosing to celebrate the holiday by visiting his older sister.
On December 15, 2021, Lacey made an Instagram plea to find Shane’s whereabouts, after saying that he had gone missing in Connecticut four days prior. She claimed the following day that Shane had been located, but that he had been hospitalized and had been mentally incapacitated.
Lacey went on to reveal in a December 17 post that the pair were no longer a couple. “Know I’ll always be here even though we aren’t together anymore, and you are still the father of our child and no matter that the public may think or people say,” she wrote, adding, “I know you’re still in there somewhere. I just PRAY you stay SAFE and don’t be too stubborn to reach out to us, your real family.” With the number of breakups and makeups Shane and Lacey have had, time will tell if this is really the end of their union. But both have scrubbed their respective Instagram accounts of photos of each other.
As of February 2023, it appears that Lacey is single; however, sherevealed in an Instagram posta month prior that she is now certified in reiki, working on getting her real estate license and bought her second home.

Kristianna and John
Season 3’s John Miller and Kristianna Roth had gone through so many obstacles in their relationship. He fell for her after only a few months of correspondence, while she served time in an Iowa prison for one of her many stints on drug charges. John literally proposed immediately upon her release while still in front of the facility. He married Kristianna in a Native American ceremony an hour later. He then had to rush to get Kristianna to her halfway house in Dubuque, Iowa, so that she wouldn’t violate parole on her first day out.
Kristianna worried about staying clean, as she knew fellow addicts who were living with her in the halfway house. She eventually bailed on the tightly run facility and got high on crack, violating the terms of her parole. She and John finally consummated their marriage during her time on the run, as he picked up his fugitive wife in Dubuque and brought her back to his home in Cresco, Iowa.
Their Bonnie and Clyde romance had to be put on hold, as Kristianna went back to prison for 11 months due to her parole violation. During that time, her ailing mother, Tammy, and struggling-to-stay-clean sister, Terra, moved in with John, as they had nowhere else to go. Terra tried seducing John several times, but John — who admitted he was unable to stay faithful to any woman he’s ever been with — managed to fend off Terra’s advances.
As seen on Life After Lockup, upon Kristanna’s release from prison, Terra was forced to move out of John’s house due to an outstanding warrant … and the fact that she tried to seduce her sister’s husband while she was away behind bars!
John and Kristianna managed to finally start out their life as a married couple, and even did Cameo videos as a couple for the show’s fans; however, their account no longer exists, as the pair ultimately could not make their relationship work. John and Kristianna’s divorce was finalized in June 2022, according to Starcasm.

Angela and Tony
These two just can’t quit each other! Angela Gail spent thousands of dollars on much-younger Tony Wood to keep him happy while he was in prison serving a three-year sentence for possession of a firearm. It took so long for them to reunite that they were introduced inLove After Lockup season 1, but he didn’t finally make it out of the big house until season 2. But once Tony got out, things got rocky. Angela accused him of seeing prostitutes, and the two fought constantly. But Angela couldn’t help but still love Tony despite his faults, and the two got married in a waterfront ceremony.
Angela eventually kicked Tony out of her mobile home after more cheating accusations. When she did take him back, she made a list of rules he had to follow to remain in her Grenada, Mississippi, trailer. It included no drugs, no prostitutes, drug tests and random phone and vehicle searches by her to make sure he wasn’t up to anything.
Since they were last seen on Life After Lockup, Tony seemed to have abided by Angela’s rules and remained in her good graces. She was there by his side as he graduated from Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi, on May 14, 2021.
Though they appeared to be solid, the couple eventually went their separate ways. In a video update posted to the official Love After Lockup Instagram account in January 2022, the former flames detailed what went wrong in the relationship, revealing they had separated and were “working on” divorce.
“If I had to describe Tony in one or two words … stupid, narcissistic, idiotic,” Angela told the camera, noting that she took care of her ex’s finances while he was in prison and spent “$10,000 or more” paying his bills and debts.
For his part, Tony appears to have moved on, going Instagram official with a woman named Heather Matthews in March 2022. The couple most recently celebrated Valentine’s Day together in February 2023.

Andrea and Lamar
Lamar Jackson had six years to go on an 18-year prison sentence for armed robbery when he and devout Mormon Andrea Edwards fell in love through being pen pals. She demanded that as soon as he was released, he make an honest woman out of her by marrying her. But Lamar refused to move to Lehi, Utah, where she lived with her three kids. Since he couldn’t leave Southern California due to parole requirements, Andrea and her children were forced to move to L.A., a city that she loathed.
In gratitude of Andrea making her unwanted life change, Lamar married her in a beautiful backyard ceremony at the end ofLove After Lockup season 1. The couple has since been a staple on the show’s spinoffLife After Lockup. It was on that series where the pair revealed that Andrea’s youngest daughter, Priscilla, was Lamar’s secret child, as she had been conceived while the pair had sex in a prison closet during Lamar’s stint behind bars.
The family was last seen on the show heading on a Mormon mission to Ghana, as it was time for her eldest son Tennison to take part in the faith’s rite of passage for young men. While Lamar never converted to Andrea’s religion, he was thrilled to get the chance to live in Africa. It also gave the family a fresh start after so much drama during their time in Los Angeles.
It is unclear what the status of their relationship is as of February 2023, but they may still be together.

Jessica and Maurice
Jessica Gipson’s loving and devoted parents were less than thrilled that their daughter had found love with an inmate. Jessica married Maurice Gipson while he was still in prison serving a seven-year sentence for burglary. But once he got out, he was unable to move to Las Vegas to be with his wife due to probation restraints. Once he was finally able to join her in Sin City, Maurice was determined to give Jessica a happy life.
The couple’s physical chemistry was intense, and Jessica soon became pregnant. Maurice wanted to give her the wedding she never had, due to his being a prisoner at the time. Her father loaned him money to buy Jessica a diamond engagement ring, and Maurice romantically re-proposed to his wife. They had a lovely wedding of Jessica’s dreams and went on to welcome a son named Ma’liq in the spring of 2020.
There had been some speculation the pair might have called a timeout on their marriage, after Maurice posted on Instagram about being in L.A. and “lonely” to his Instagram in February 2021. But Jessica responded back, “I love you and I’m sorry you going through so much right now. Just know I’m always here and always got your back 100%.”
It turned out Maurice was in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, arrested on February 25, 2021, on charges of firearm possession and parole violation, according to Starcasm. He was held in custody on a no-bail warrant until his release on April 22, 2021. In Touch can confirm the firearm charge was later rejected.
The couple split sometime in the latter half of 2021. According to multiple reports, Maurice moved on quickly with a woman named Mandy. Jessica has since scrubbed her Instagram account of photos of her husband, and her bio line only reads “Ma’liqs mommy,” with no reference to being Maurice’s wife. Though she has said how much “mommy and daddy” love their little boy in past Instagram photos of their son, more recent photos and videos omit any mention of Maurice.

Mary and Dominic
Season 1’s Dominic and Mary Dalla Nora briefly dated before he ended up doing six years in a Canadian prison for aggravated assault. Mary stayed with him for all that time, convinced they were soulmates and would get married once he was back on the outside. But upon Dom’s release, it was clear he was suffering trauma issues from his time behind bars.
Mary took him to try on tuxes for their wedding just a few days after he was released. Dom was still adjusting to life on the outside, as well as living in a halfway house. While it caused friction between the couple, the pair went on to wed at the end of their season in a small ceremony. Dom moved into Mary’s apartment once he completed his time in the halfway house. The couple welcomed a baby boy named Ari Cristiano in April 2020, and welcomed a second boy sometime after.
Though their current relationship status is unknown, it appears that the couple have gone their separate ways as of February 2023, as multiple Reddit users claimed Mary used the “single mom” hashtag in a post on Instagram in July 2022.
